Baltimore's Deadly, Memorial Day Weekend: Most Violent Month Since 1999...

Team Crowder
May 26, 2015

Over Memorial Day weekend, there were 28 shootings, with nine resulting deaths in the city of Baltimore, reports local CBS station WJZ. Apparently, these thugs saw fit to honor America's fallen... but creating more of America's fallen.

Police say 28 people were shot, 9 of them killed over this weekend, adding to the record-breaking violence.

The shooting didn’t stop on Monday night after a 9-year-old boy and another man were both injured by gun fire in the 2900 block of Arunah Avenue. Police say the child was shot in the leg and another man suffered a graze wound to the head.

It is the deadliest month in Baltimore since 1999. But you don't see rallies or protest. There are no marchers or hashtags. There are just strips of yellow tape and little numbers carefully placed to mark pieces of evidence. There are no talking heads opining. Just police sketches and mugshots. And obituaries. Lots and lots of obituaries.

The politics of violence came to Baltimore. The rhetoric of violence. The "space" for it. And now, when the riots are over and the moralizing about which lives matter has ended, a holiday weekend ends with 28 people shot. Nine of them fatally. The left observes that people have rage, and then people act on that rage. But what happens when the cameras and activists leave town? Where does that rage go? Does it go to candlelight vigils and photojournalism award moments? No, it goes back into the streets from whence it came, and the result is all too predictable, and tragic.

The WJZ report states that, so far this year, 108 people have died "due to violence in the city." That's this year. It's currently May. When the marchers next take to the streets, they might do well to remember and condemn the violence of the citizens, not just the police. #AllLivesMatter

WJZ offers up a sample of police reports from the weekend.
